Marriott Mena House

Updated: Oct 17

When we started planning our bucket list trip to Egypt, we saw so many pictures of the Marriott Mena House and knew that we needed to book a stay there. The Marriott Mena House is more than just a hotel; it’s a historical landmark with roots dating back to 1869 when it was originally built as a royal hunting lodge. Over the years, it has evolved into one of Cairo’s most luxurious hotels, hosting an array of illustrious guests, from kings and queens to world leaders and Hollywood celebrities. Shelly and I were immediately struck by the sense of history and grandeur that permeates every corner of the property.

Marriott Mena House view of Pyramids

One of the most striking features of the Marriott Mena House is its unparalleled location literally at the foot of the Great Pyramids of Giza. This proximity not only provides guests with breathtaking views but also sets the tone with a sense of awe and wonder around every turn. The hotel is set amidst 40 acres of lush gardens, creating a serene oasis that feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of Cairo. Despite its tranquil setting, we found the hotel to be conveniently located, offering easy access to Cairo's most iconic attractions, including the Sphinx, the Egyptian Museum, and the vibrant Khan El Khalili bazaar.

Our stay at the Marriott Mena House was marked by exceptional service from the moment we arrived. The staff was attentive and welcoming, ensuring that every aspect of our visit was perfect. The hotel’s rich history is evident in the smallest details, from the antique furniture in the public areas to the historical photos lining the corridors. As we walked through the gardens, with the pyramids looming in the background, we couldn’t help but marvel that we were finally in Egypt at this incredible hotel. It was the perfect place to begin our adventure!

Our room at the Marriott Mena House

Our Room: We chose a Deluxe King Room with a Pyramid view, but because of our status with Marriott, we were upgraded to a suite! The moment we entered, we were greeted by a stunning view of the Great Pyramid right outside our window, a sight that left us both speechless. The room itself was spacious, elegantly decorated in warm tones that reflected the rich cultural heritage of Egypt, and equipped with all the modern amenities we could ask for. Marriott has the most comfortable beds, ensuring that we woke up every morning ready to conquer the day! The room also featured a sitting area with a sofa and armchairs, where Shelly and I would often relax, gazing at the pyramids.

The marble bathroom was equally luxurious, complete with a deep soaking tub, a separate rainfall shower, and a generous supply of high-end toiletries. After a long day of sightseeing, soaking in the tub was an indulgent treat. Shelly loves taking baths and she was in heaven here. The room also had thoughtful touches like complimentary bottled water, a well-stocked minibar, and a Nespresso machine if you're a coffee lover. The attention to detail in the room’s design and amenities made it feel like a true home away from home.

One of the highlights of our stay was the private balcony that overlooked the hotel’s lush gardens and offered an uninterrupted view of the pyramids. We spent mornings sitting out on the balcony, enjoying room service gazing out over the pyramids. It was an unbelievable sight every time! The view was equally mesmerizing at night when the pyramids were illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere that we’ll never forget. Staying in a room with such a stunning view truly elevated our entire experience at the Marriott Mena House.

We loved this hotel so much, we almost hated to leave to visit the sights of Cairo! The outdoor pool, set amidst the hotel’s lush gardens, was a particular favorite of ours. It provided a refreshing escape from the Cairo heat, and we loved lounging by the pool, surrounded by palm trees and vibrant flowers. The pool area also features a bar, where we enjoyed light snacks and drinks throughout the day. For those looking to stay active, the hotel’s fitness center is well-equipped with modern machines and free weights, offering everything you need for a good workout.

The spa offers a range of treatments, from traditional massages to more specialized therapies, all designed to soothe the body and mind. Shelly and I opted for a couples' massage, and it was one of the most relaxing experiences we’ve ever had. This is our favorite cure for jet lag!

In addition to the spa and fitness center, the Marriott Mena House offers a range of other amenities that enhance the overall experience. The hotel’s concierge service was incredibly helpful in arranging tours and activities for us, and the 24-hour room service ensured that we could enjoy a meal or snack whenever we wanted. The hotel also offers a business center, meeting rooms, and complimentary Wi-Fi, making it a great choice for both leisure and business travelers. Every aspect of the hotel is designed with guest comfort in mind, ensuring a stay that is as convenient as it is luxurious.

Outdoor dining at the Marriott Mena House

Dining: Dining at the Marriott Mena House was a culinary journey that Shelly and I thoroughly enjoyed. The hotel offers several dining options, each with its unique ambiance and cuisine. Our mornings began with a lavish breakfast at 139 Pavilion, the hotel’s main restaurant. The breakfast buffet was a feast for the senses, featuring a wide array of international and Egyptian dishes. From freshly baked pastries and fruits to made-to-order omelets and traditional Egyptian breakfast items like ful medames and baladi bread, there was something to satisfy every palate. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the restaurant’s terrace, which of course offers stunning views of the pyramids—a truly magical way to start the day.

For lunch and dinner, we explored the other dining options at the hotel. The Indian Restaurant was a standout, serving some of the best Indian cuisine we’ve ever tasted. The menu featured a range of traditional dishes, from flavorful curries to tandoori specialties, all prepared with the finest ingredients and spices. The restaurant’s elegant decor and attentive service made dining there a memorable experience. We also dined at Alfredo, the hotel’s Italian restaurant, which offers a menu of classic Italian dishes in a cozy, intimate setting. The homemade pasta and wood-fired pizzas were delicious.
